Doris (D'Entremont)
Gagnon
December 15, 1929 – April 5, 2026
Doris L. Gagnon of Wakefield, MA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on April 5, 2026, at the age of 96. Her passing on Easter Sunday felt like a special blessing to those who loved her, reflecting the deep faith that shaped her life.
Born on December 15, 1929, in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Mary d’Entremont. Doris was raised in Malden and graduated from Malden High School in 1947. She married Norman Gagnon in 1949 and they settled in Wakefield, where they built a life rooted in love, faith, and family. A resident of Wakefield for over 70 years, Doris was grateful to remain in her treasured home until the final months of her life.
Doris worked for many years as a bookkeeper, balancing her professional life with a deep devotion to her home and family. She and Norman shared a love of travel and adventure. For over 20 years, they spent their winters in Florida, making the drive together each year — a tradition that reflected both their independence and joy for the journey. They also enjoyed time at Lake Horace, NH, and York Beach, ME where many memories were made and lasting friendships were formed.
She treasured her close circle of friends, especially her “garden club” group, with whom she shared decades of friendship, conversation and laughter. Doris found great joy in life’s simple, meaningful moments. She could often be found in her kitchen, cooking and baking for those she loved, or tending to her vegetable and flower gardens.
A woman of deep faith, Doris was a devoted member of Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, where she was active in the Women’s Guild. She also enjoyed spending time at the Wakefield Senior Center where she especially loved playing Bingo.
Doris touched the lives of so many and will be remembered for her unwavering love of family and friends, her warm and witty sense of humor, her kind and generous spirit and her deep Catholic faith.
She was the beloved wife of the late Norman Gagnon, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage until his passing in 2013. She was also predeceased by her brother, Edwin d’Entremont, and her sons, Stephen, Michael, and Peter Gagnon.
Doris is survived by her loving son, Norman Gagnon and his wife, Jane of Stoneham, MA; her cherished grandchildren, Sara Cline and her husband, Alex, Susie Vanseth and her husband, Shawn, and David Gagnon; and her adored great-granddaughters, Isla and Violet Cline, and Ava and Maisie Vanseth, who lovingly knew her as “Great Grammy.” Also survived by many caring nephews and nieces; and a large circle of friends.
Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Sunday, April 12, 2026, from 1:00PM-4:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 10:00AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend.
