Doris Etta (Rumrill) Polley of Melrose, passed away on Tuesday, April 24th, 2007 at the Woodbridge Assisted Living Center of Peabody. She was 81 years old. Born on February 22, 1926 in Malden, Massachusetts to the late Edwin & Phyllis (Ervin) Rumrill, Doris was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School, class of 1944. She was a homemaker and a seamstress. She enjoyed square dancing, summers at Lake Winnipesaukee, the Saugus Senior Center and played the piano & organ. She volunteered at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital gift shop for 21 years and was a long time member of The Church of The Nazarene of Melrose, where she was very active with the parish and also taught Sunday school. Doris was also an avid bowler in the Melrose Bowling League for many years. She was the loving mother of Jeanne L. Bell & her late husband Lenny of Brockton, Stephen P. Polley & his wife Marilyn of Saugus, Jane E. Doherty & her husband Ron of R.I. & the late Judith E. Polley. Cherished grandmother of 6 & great grandmother of 10. Caring sister of Edna Penney of Wolfboro, NH, Edwin Rumrill of Georgia & the late Richard & Kenneth Rumrill. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. Funeral service in the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Friday, April 27th at 11:30 AM Family & friends invited. Visiting hours 9:30-11:30AM prior to the service.
