Dorothy Jean Ahlin (Guay) of Mt Pleasant, South Carolina, formerly of Melrose Massachusetts died on March 4, 2026, surrounded by family.
Dottie was born in Lynn on January 4, 1934, to the late Amedee and Florence (Duchesne) Guay. She attended Lynn English High School where she performed in the band. After high school, Dottie went to work in a shoe factory in Lynn MA and became a competitive Roller Skater. Dottie started her family and worked mothers’ hours at Melrose Wakefield Hospital for many years. She eventually went to work for the Church of the Incarnation as a cook and caretaker where she worked for over 35 years before she fully retired at 82. She also was a dedicated parishioner who sang in the choir and served as a Eucharistic minister. Dottie loved to travel, with travel to Europe being her favorite. In her spare time, she would knit and care for all her plants.
Dottie was the beloved wife of 63 years to the late Kenneth J Ahlin of Melrose. Loving mother of Kenneth J Ahlin Jr. and his wife Jennifer of South Carolina, the late Paul M. Ahlin and his wife Lisa of Woburn, Brenda Moriarty of South Carolina, Dennis J. Ahlin and his wife Jennifer of Wilmington. Grandmother of Claire, Alex & Amanda, Michael, Alyssa & Bryan, Ashley, Jacqueline, John & Morgan, Zachary, Shane & Casey. Great grandmother of Georgia, Lydon, Asher and Olivia.
Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 4:00PM-7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of the Incarnation, 429 Upham St., Melrose on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 10:00AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Interment to follow at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
