Obituary

Dorothy Frances (Drout) Cable, 90, on October 4, 2019. Most recently of Medford, Massachusetts, previously of Tiverton and Newport, Rhode Island. The daughter of James A. and Francis X (O'Rourke) Drout, Dorothy was born and raised in her beloved New York City. She was the mother of four children: Christopher Cable-Cheval of South Dakota, the late James Cable of Rome, New York, Gillian Cable-Murphy of Scituate, Massachusetts, and Victoria Cable of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was grandmother of seven and great grandmother of 6. Over the course of her life Dorothy followed numerous things that piqued her interest, from working at Theater Arts Magazine and the AP, to opening her own consignment shop and working as a textile conservator, which allowed her to work on varied items including pieces from the Breakers and the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum. Dorothy was also a founding member of the Black Ships Festival and a lifelong lover of literature. Visitation hours 4-7pm Thursday October 10 at Gately Funeral Home, Melrose. Donations in her honor may be made to the Pine Street Inn or Scituate Animal Shelter.
