Dorothy (Frederick) Court-Garbati, 80, of Melrose passed away on April 22.
Born in Revere, raised in Saugus, she was the daughter of the late Mildred and James Frederick. Dorothy was the former wife of Eugene Garbati and was the devoted mother of Peter Garbati, husband of Mary Anne of Plaistow, NH, Robert Garbati, husband of Barbara of Wilmington, Janet McCarthy, wife of George of Melrose and Jean Garbati, fiancée of Al Scibelli of Beverly.
She is survived by eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was the loving sister of Mildred DeFranzo, wife of Raymond of Saugus, Viola Kelligrew, wife of Wallace of Medford, Albert Frederick, husband of Billie of Newark, CA and the late John Frederick, husband of Phyllis of Saugus.
Dorothy was a graduate of Saugus High School and Wilfred Beauty Academy of Boston. She worked at Servomation Corp., Dentek Corp. and the dental offices of Drs. Coggins of Melrose and Berman of Malden. She also worked in the special diet office at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, was employed for several years in the administrative offices of Malden Hospital and worked in sales for Sears in Saugus.
Besides being a hairdresser, she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting, knitting and art. She took drawing lessons and became quite an artist using pastel chalks.
There will be a celebration of Dorothy's life on Thursday evening, June 18 at 6 PM at Mt Hood Golf Club, 100 Slayton Rd, Melrose. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
