Dorothy M. (O'Brien) Mafera passed away at Wingate of Reading on Christmas Day, December 25, 2013, at the age of 90. She was born in Lynn on June 6, 1923 to the late John P. & Alice M. (Beauvais) O'Brien. Dorothy was raised in Lynn and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Lynn, Class of 1941. Mrs. Mafera lived in Lynn for many years, Manchester, NH for 11 years, Reading for 23 years and the past 29 years in Malden. She worked as a key punch operator for the American Mutual Life Insurance Company in Wakefield for 29 years, was a former member of St Agnes Church in Reading and Immaculate Conception Church in Malden. Dorothy loved spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren, enjoyed reading, knitting, surfing the net and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Dorothy was the loving mother of Linda M. Campbell & her husband Dick of Reading, Kathy A. O'Connor & her late husband Steve of Malden and the late Frank J. Mafera III and the late John P. Mafera. Devoted grandmother of Patrick, Erin, Matthew, Kellie, Allison, Danielle & Brian. Cherished great grandmother of Timmy, Chris, Jason, Aidan & Ainsley. Also survived by several nephews and friends. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Monday, December 30th at 9AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 10AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday from 2:00-5:00PM. Interment at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield.
