Dorothy F. (Dowd) McColgan, of Melrose, passed away on November 25th, 2021 at the age of 86 surrounded by her loving family. Daughter of the late William and Nora (O'Keefe) Dowd. Dorothy was raised in Charlestown and graduated from Girls Catholic High School in Boston. She moved to Melrose in 1963 to raise her family and she remained there ever since. Dorothy worked at Commercial Union Insurance Company for many years. She was also a member of the Red Hats. Most importantly, her greatest interest was always her family, particularly her grandchildren and was very proud of them all. She was the loving mother of Jim M. McColgan & his wife Joann of Tewksbury, Stephen M. McColgan & his wife Susan of Haverhill, and Karen M. Capuano & her husband Larry of Melrose. Proud grandmother of Joseph Capuano & his wife Brooke, Alyssa Capuano, Daniel McColgan, Nicole Sweeney & her husband Mike, Lauren McColgan, and Courtney McColgan, and great-grandmother of Cora Capuano. Sister of Virginia Healey, the late Thomas Dowd, and the late Margaret DiLeo. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Visiting Hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose, on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 4:00-7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
