Edna J. (Gainey) Carroll passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, in Danvers, on February 7, 2007; she was 91 years of age. Edna was born and raised in Lynn, graduated from Lynn Classical High School and Salem State College. Mrs. Carroll taught 5th & 6th grade at the Daniels School in Malden for 17 years. She lived in Malden most of her life before moving to Melrose in 1982. She was a member of the Malden & Massachusetts Teachers Associations, was Past President of the Catholic Womens Club at Immaculate Conception Church in Malden and has been a member of St. Marys Church in Melrose for the past 25 years. Edna worked as a volunteer at Malden Hospital for 25 years, she enjoyed flower arranging and doing crossword puzzles. Mrs. Carroll was the beloved wife of the late James M. Carroll. Loving mother of Johannah York & her late husband Richard of New London, NH, Stephen Carroll & his late wife Patricia of Malden, James M. Carroll & his wife Denise of Juneau, Alaska, Mary Murphy & her late husband George of Melrose, John H. Carroll & his wife Eileen of Wakefield, Julie E. Nedelka & her husband Thomas of Amesbury, Fred L. Carroll & his wife Joanne of Chelmsford, Edward J. Carroll & his wife Roberta of Seattle, Wash. & the late Michael J. Carroll. Cherished grandmother of 24 & great grandmother of 29. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Monday, Feb. 12th at 9AM. Funeral Mass in St. Marys Church Herbert St. Melrose, at 10AM. Family & friends invited. Visiting hours Sunday 2-6PM. Interment in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
