Edward J. Canavan died at Bear Hill Nursing Center on November 24, 2019. He was 88 years of age. Ed was born in South Boston to the late Joseph & Marg (Bergh) Canavan. He was raised in South Boston, lived in East Boston for 15 years, Melrose for 25 years, Middleton for over 10 years before returning to Melrose. Mr. Canavan served his country with pride in the US Army during the Korean War and was a Bronze Star recipient. In 2018 he received the Peace Medal from Korea. Ed was a printer by trade working at Spaulding Printing, Boston Printing Company and Relief Printing over a 30 year span. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus in South Boston and was a loving husband to Mary A. (Sulkey) Canavan. Cherished brother of Iren Shea of Hyde Park, Joseph Canavan of Canton, Paul Canavan of Quincy and the late Rita Jansky and the late Mary Mogan. He was also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services and interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden were private. Arrangements By Gately Funeral Home in Melrose.
