Edward M. Smith, of Melrose, died in Stoneham on Sept. 28, 2016 at the age of 94. Ed was born & raised in Medford and a graduate of Medford Vocational High School. He served his country during WWII as a Navy Aviation Ordnanceman. After returning from the war, Ed worked as a Printer for the Murray Printing Company in Westford for over 40 years, working his way up to Vice President and General Manager before his retirement. He enjoyed reading and traveling with his wife Ruth to Cape Cod & Bermuda. Ed loved to play golf & was a member of the Andover Country Club for many years and would travel to Seaview, NJ for his annual golf tournament. He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth E. (O'Donnell) Smith for 66 years. Loving father of Eileen R. Mulgrew & her husband Paul of Malden, Jeannie M. Smith of Beverly, Edward J. Smith & his wife Marie of NH and Joseph J. Smith & his wife Lisa of W. Peabody. Also survived by 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Monday, Oct. 3rd from 8:30-9:30AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
