Edward C. "Chris" Smith passed away at the Woodbriar of Wilmington, on April 12, 2008, he was 70 years of age. Chris was born in Springfield, raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School Class of 1956, where he was a member of the Melrose High School State Hockey Championship Team. Mr. Smith continued on to Boston College, where he played hockey for 4 years wearing #11 and was captain his senior year. He graduated from Boston College in 1960. Mr. Smith helped start an electronics distribution company in 1975 , the Lionex Corporation of Burlington, and was a managing partner for 16 years. He retired in 1990 after the company was sold. Chris continued to work for the Rowley Printing Company and the Colrane Company for several years after retirement. He was a member of the Alumni Association & Pikes Peak at BC and a member of Bellevue Golf Club in Melrose. Chris loved to spend time with his family and he enjoyed his summer home at Moody Beach in Wells, Maine for the last 35 years. Mr. Smith was the beloved husband of Judith A. (Putney) Smith. Loving father of David C. Smith & his wife Michelle of Wilmington, predeceased by his daughter in 2001 the late Deborah Ann Smith Smarr. Cherished grandfather of Zachary D. & Jacob E. Smith. Brother of Joan Crowther of Melrose and Robert Smith of Wakefield. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Friday April 18th at 8AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 9AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours on Thursday from 4-8PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
