Edward J. Collins, 83, of Melrose, MA passed away on April 10, 2026, peacefully surrounded by family.

He was born on February 7, 1943, in Boston to Mary Goonan of Mayo, Ireland and David Collins of Cork, Ireland. Eddie grew up in Charlestown and went on to Northeastern University at night and worked his entire career at Mass General Hospital and Brigham and Women's hospital. He worked as a Manager in Government Programs (Medicare/Medicaid) for 42 years and was known for his work ethic, sense of humor and easygoing nature.

Edward J. Collins had a deep love for his family, Irish heritage and Boston sports teams. He will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, work ethic and for providing a loving home for his 7 children and extended family. He is survived by his sister Anne Collins of Middleboro MA, former spouse Rita Collins of Boston, daughter Donna Williams of Redwood City CA, Christine Collins of Revere, Daniel Collins of Boston, Patrick Collins of Melrose, and Paul Collins of Boston. Grandchildren Edward Collins III of Quincy, Daniel Kittredge of Amesbury Ma, Kathryn Williams of Melbourne Australia, Lauren Williams of Seattle WA, Brigid Collins of Malden, MA and Maeve Collins of Malden MA. He was preceded in death by sons Edward J Collins Jr of San Diego CA and Jeffrey Collins of Melrose, MA.

Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 4:00PM-7:00PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Church, 4 Herbert St., Melrose, on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at 10:00AM. Interment to follow at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend.
