Elizabeth "Lily" E. (O'Reilly) Davoren, of Malden, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on June 9, 2024, at the age of 92. She was born in the Bronx, NY on April 25, 1932, to the late Christopher and Gabrielle (McKeough) O'Reilly. When she was 4 years old her family moved back to Ireland, where she was raised in Galway City. In 1954 she returned to the U.S. and was a proud U.S. citizen while always remembering her Irish roots.
Lily met her late husband Morty shortly after returning to the U.S. They married in 1958 and raised 4 children in Somerville and Malden. She loved music and would always have her record player going at home and enjoyed some Bruce Springsteen and U2 concerts with her daughters over the years. Lily spent a lot of time at the Melrose Family YMCA, a place she loved to be. She was a passionate Boston sports fan, particularly the Red Sox. For 30 years she would "snowbird" to Naples, Florida for the winter where she had many wonderful friends. Her greatest love was her family, she cherished spending time with them and loved attending her grandchildren's games and events.
Elizabeth was the beloved wife of the late Mortimer Davoren. Loving mother of Paul E. Davoren of Malden, Anne E. Lucas & her husband Tom of Woburn, Lisa M. Alviti & Christopher Clark of Danvers, and Sheila M. McDonnell & her husband Patrick of Melrose. Cherished grandmother of Paul R. Davoren, Ryan Davoren & his wife Michelle, Joshua Davoren, Brendan Lucas & his wife Kaet, Patrick Lucas & his wife Katharine, Corey Lucas, Celia (Alviti) Flanagan & her husband Kevin, John Alviti, Gabrielle, Bridget, and Deirdre McDonnell. She is also survived by eight loving great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Gabrielle O'Reilly of Ireland and was predeceased by her brothers Eugene O'Reilly and Christopher O'Reilly. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose, on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 9:30-11:00 AM. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home immediately following the visitation at 11:00 AM. Interment at Forest Dale Cemetery, 150 Forest St., Malden. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lily's name to the Melrose Family YMCA, 497 Main St., Melrose, MA 02176.
