Elizabeth L. "BettyLou" (Galley) Flannigan, of Melrose, died at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital on Feb. 26, 2014 at the age of 87. BettyLou was born & raised in North Reading and a graduate & Valedictorian of the Class of 1944 from Reading High School. She went on to earn her degree from Simmons College in Boston. BettyLou worked as a Teacher in Stow & Bedford for several years and at the Roosevelt School in Melrose for over 30 years before her retirement in 1980. She resided in Melrose for many years and enjoyed reading, games, Wingasheake Beach and traveling to New Hampshire during the winter months to ski with her family & many friends. BettyLou was a member of the Kappa Delta PSI Good Will Sorority in Melrose, Malden Mass-Shushers Ski Club and Bellevue Golf Club in Melrose for many years. She would always say to her family "You get out of life what you put into it". BettyLou was the beloved wife of Richard J. Flannigan for over 57 years. Loving mother of Joanne Cotton & her husband Daniel and Barbara Flannigan Murphy, all of Melrose. Cherished grandmother of Kaitlyn, Michael, Maxwell and Madison. Devoted cousin & best friend of Audrey Galley of ME. A funeral service will be held at the First Congregational Church, 121 W. Foster St., Melrose on Monday, March 3rd at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours on Sunday from 2-6 PM at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
