Elizabeth F. (Carter) "Betty" Power, of Melrose, formerly of Winter Harbor, ME, died at the Winchester Nursing Center on Nov. 24, 2011 at the age of 87. Elizabeth was born in Blue Hill, Maine and a graduate of Sedgewick High School in Sedgewick, ME where she was the Valedictorian of the Class of 1942. She resided in Somerville for over 30 years and Melrose since 1998. Betty worked as a Ward Secretary at the Somerville Hospital in Somerville for over 20 years. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed Crocheting, puzzles, baking and jig-saw puzzles. Betty was a member and past president of the Mother's Club at St. Catherine's Church in Somerville for many years and loved all of her friends at the Cefalo House in Melrose. Elizabeth was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. Power Sr. for 52 years. Loving mother of Kevin J. Power of NC, Kathleen E. Palumbo & her husband Anthony of VA, Edward J. Power Jr. & his wife Marie of NH, Brian F. Power & his wife Darlene of Melrose, Robert S. Power & his wife Debra of NC and John P. Power & his wife Patricia of Methuen and the late Richard S. Power. Caring sister of Ethel Ivey, Elmer Carter, Mary Graffam, Herbert Carter and the late Alice Barlow and Winifred Carter. Sister in law of Jean Godfrey & her late husband Wayne of Westford. Cherished grandmother of 12 grandchildren and the late Megan Power. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday Nov. 30th at 10AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 11AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours prior to the service from 9-10:30AM at the funeral home. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
