IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth L.
Shea
December 31, 1924 – September 25, 2024
Elizabeth "Betty" Shea, born on December 31, 1924, in Medford, MA, lived a long and fulfilling life. As the third oldest of ten children and the last to survive, she carried with her the strength and warmth of a large family nurtured by her parents Michael and Hilda Doran.
In 1947, she married John James Shea, and together they made their home in Melrose in 1960, where Betty lived for many years. She was a devoted mother to Linda (Shea) Spadafora, Nancy Shea, and John "Jack" Shea. Betty leaves behind her cherished family, including her daughter in-law Joan Shea, brother in law Phil Veysey and grandchildren Lori Spadafora, Allison Spadafora, Bethanne Shea and Melissa Shea.
Betty had an athletic side that may have surprised some. She developed a love for horses later in life and was also an accomplished bike rider, famously winning a competitive race against a group of boys. That competitive spirit never faded, and she stayed active throughout her life, participating in exercise classes and Tai Chi at the Melrose senior center. A loyal Red Sox fan, Betty found joy in watching baseball games and cheering for her team, a reflection of her energetic and positive spirit, which she carried into all aspects of life.
Betty's career as a social worker allowed her to help many people, always with a kind heart and a listening ear. She will be remembered for her generosity, strength, and deep love for her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of kindness and resilience will live on.
