Obituary

Ellen Chandler Brown or "Mimi" as many knew her, died Monday night, March 24, 2008, at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital from complications of heart disease. Born in Bellows Falls Vermont to the late Albert & Adah (Edwards) Chandler. Ellen never lost her passion for the beauty of a white snowy winter, filled with skiing and fondue. Truly adventurous for her time, Ellen traded in the security of her small town life for Boston and Simmons College, graduating in 1942. Ellen then moved to Melrose and married the love of her life, Wesley E. Brown Jr. It was a match made and now reunited in heaven. Ellen & Wes alternated their time between Melrose and Lake Sunapee, NH. Summers at Sunapee were simple, swimming, boating, corn, blueberry pie, friends, fun and laughter. To Ellen it was paradise. While living in Melrose, Mrs. Brown proceeded to throw herself into a life of community service; volunteering at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital for more than 35 years, a member of the Trinity Church alter guild and hand bell choir, the Melrose Republican Club and many other organizations. She will be truly missed by the hundreds of lives she brightened, especially her 3 children. Albert W. Brown of Melrose, Austin C. Brown of Saugus and Elizabeth B. Ambeliotis of Gloucester. Her grandchildren Kevin Brown, Timothy Brown, Jennifer O'Brien, Virginia, Emily & Nicholas Ambeliotis and the late Albert W. Brown Jr. and her 8 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 131 W. Emerson St. Melrose, on Sunday, March 30th at 2PM. Relatives & friends invited. In lieu of flowers donations would be graciously welcomed to The Polymania Choral Society of Melrose, P.O. Box 760718, Melrose, MA 02176.
