Ellen F. (Doherty) Comeau passed away peacefully at her home encircled by her family at the age of 58 on August 4, 2009. She was born in Cambridge on June 20, 1951. After spending the first several years of her life living in several military bases with her family she settled in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1970. Ellen lived most of her life in Melrose, 10 years in Malden and the past 6 years in Melrose. Mrs. Comeau spent a great number of years working at the New England Telephone Company in Malden & Boston, and nearly as many years at the corporate offices of Filene's Basement. She loved life & to laugh and was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need. Ellen's past many years have been directed to the courageous and endless battle against cancer. May her rewards be matched by the love and happiness she has shared with others. Devoted wife of Richard J. Comeau. Beloved daughter of Ann C. (MacIsaac) Doherty of Melrose and the late Owen F. Doherty (LTC-RA Retired). Dearly loved sister of Patricia A. Doherty & her husband Kenneth L. Estey of Concord, Nancy L. McDonough & her husband Stephen G. of Stoneham, Owen F. Doherty II & his husband Robert Watkins Jr. of Billerica, Daniel C. Doherty & his wife Stephanie of Northfield, VT & John C. Doherty & his wife Monique of Medford. She was deeply devoted to her several nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Monday, August 10th at 9AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 3-7PM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
