Empedocle "Empe" Capasso passed away at the Glenridge Nursing Home in Medford, on March 16, 2008; he was 93 years of age. Empedocle was born in Palermo, Italy, raised in Palermo and served as a tailor in the Italian Navy during WWII from 1937 to 1943. After his discharge from the Navy he moved to Rome, worked as a tailor from 1945 to 1962 before moving his family to America in 1962. Empe landed in Boston, worked for Louis of Boston and the Harvard Coop before opening his own tailor shop in Medford. He owned and operated Capasso Tailoring in Medford for over 30 years, retiring at the age of 80. Empe lived in Medford for many years and the past several years in Rockport. His passion was making men's clothing and loved to watch the Italian soccer matches. He was the husband of the late Maria (Zafarana) Capasso. Father of Michela A. Tobin & her husband William and Catina "Cathi" Sparaco & her husband Paul all of Melrose. Grandfather of Alexander Tobin, Matthew Tobin & his wife Heather, Andrew Sparaco & Mark Sparaco. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Thurs. March 20th at 9:30AM. Followed by a Funeral Liturgy at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visitation on Thursday morning from 8:30-9:30AM. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
