Ernest A. Masiello passed away at Fish Memorial Hospital in Deltona, Florida on April 15, 2015. He was 88 years of age. Ernie was born in Melrose on November 30, 1926 to the late Angelo & Angelina (Bevilaqua) Masiello. He was raised in Melrose, attended Melrose High School and was a lifelong resident. Mr. Masiello summered at Bow Lake in NH since 1959 and wintered in Deltona, Florida since 1976. Ernie entered the US Navy in 1944 and served his country with pride during WWII, he was discharged in 1946. Mr. Masiello was the president and owner of Crystal Motors in Wakefield since 1952 and on all his trucks he had the slogan "Behind a rolling ball comes a running child". He was a very hard working man who was also very generous with his time. Ernie was a founding member of Incarnation Church in Melrose and helped build the ball field behind the church. Mr. Masiello was also a founding member and lifelong member of the Melrose Fish & Game Club. He was past president and longtime member of the Melrose Kiwanis Club, where he raised money to build the New England Pediatric Trauma Center at Tufts N.E. Medical Center in Boston. Ernie was an avid golfer at Mount Hood Golf Course, was a member of the Inner Club at the golf course and was the first person to own a golf cart at Mount Hood, where he helped put in cart paths on the course. He loved the New England Patriots and was a season ticket holder since 1965. What stands out most about Ernie is his great smile and huge heart. He loved to cook, loved to eat and loved to feed all his friends and family. Ernie will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Mr. Masiello was the devoted husband of 65 years to Doris C. (Cardillo) Masiello. Loving father of Charles R. Masiello & his wife Judy of Wakefield, Ronald E. Masiello & his wife Elaine of Lynn and Jean M. Powers & her husband Andy of Melrose. Cherished grandfather of Leanne Masiello, Rachel Masiello, Bonnie Masiello, Jessica Correia & her husband Joe, Natalie Casey & her husband Tom and Kenneth Powers. Loving great grandfather of Kyla Casey & Joseph Correia. Devoted uncle of Rick Veerman. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Monday, April 20, 2015 from 4:00-8:00PM. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, Melrose on Tuesday, April 21st at 10:00AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St. Melrose at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial with Military Honors at St. Patrick Cemetery in Stoneham will follow.
