Obituary

Ethel L. (Holmes) Hannabury died at Winchester Nursing Center on Dec. 21st after a long illness at the age of 79. She was raised in Chelsea, graduated from Chelsea High School and has been a resident of Melrose since 1943. Ethel was a homemaker and an accomplished artist. She taught decorative painting in Reading, Arlington and in her studio in Melrose. Ethel was a member of the National Society of Decorative Painters, the White Mounatin Guild, Yankee Heritage Guild, Mayflower Guild and the Conneticut Guild of Painters. She also sold many of her art works in the Melrose area. Ethel was the beloved wife of 59 years of Ralph A. Hannabury. Devoted mother of Ralph A. Hannabury Jr. & his wife Mary of Boston and Jane L. Lavender & her husband James of Melrose. Sister of the late Robert W. Holmes. Dear grandmother of Susan Schraffa & her husband Brian of Wakefield, Elizabeth Hannabury & her fiancee Chris Duschene of Boston, Alison Fox & her husband Gred of Bristol RI, Jaclyn Bird & her husband Brian, Patricia Grauwiler & her husband Michael and Jason Lavender all of Melrose. Great grandmother of Joseph Fox. Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Monday Dec. 23rd from 4-8PM. Relatives and freinds invited. Funeral services will be private. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery Melrose. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Winchester Nursing Center 223 Swanton St. Winchester 01890.
