Eugene L. "Gene" Ferguson, of Melrose, died at the Oosterman's Nursing Home in Melrose on July 7, 2014 at the age of 84. Gene was born in Everett, raised in Malden and a graduate of Malden High School, Class of 1946. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War Era. Gene resided in Malden for several years, Wakefield for 5 years and Melrose for the past 55 years. He worked as a Concierge for the Ritz Carlton in Boston for over 40 years before his retirement. He was a Co-founder and Past President of the Les Clefs d'Or, an organization of concierges from all over the world. Gene enjoyed playing golf at Wollaston Golf Club, Farm Neck Golf Club on Martha's Vineyard and Mt Hood in Melrose. He loved playing tennis, going to the theatre in Boston and spending his time with his children & grandchildren. Gene was the beloved husband of Pauline G. (Stephens) Ferguson for 61 years. Loving father of Paul G. Ferguson & his wife Susan of Wakefield, David G. Ferguson & his wife Linda of Charleston, SC, Lori J. McBride & her husband Michael of Hopkinton, and Donna M. Stanton & her husband John of Melrose, Caring brother of William Ferguson & his wife Barbara of Cape Cod, Ann Grant & her husband Fred of Groveland, Joan Johnson & her husband Al of Merrimack and Robert Ferguson & his wife Jean of Haverhill. Cherished grandfather of Susan, Stephen, Angela, Colleen, Kerri, Jessica and Maryanne. Devoted great grandfather of Alanna, Declan, Kellan and Jonathan. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. A funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home on Monday, July 14th at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. Burial will be private.
