Eugene L. Garbati passed away at the Courtyard Nursing Center in Medford, on November 2, 2010. He was 90 years of age. Eugene was born in Cambridge on Sept. 11, 1920 to the late Edward P. & Esther (Morelli) Garbati. He was raised in Everett, graduated from Everett High School and has been a longtime resident of Melrose. Mr. Garbati served for 3 years in the US Navy during WWII. Eugene worked as a machinist in the candy manufacturing business for 47 years. He worked for many years at Lewis Candy of Malden and then for Schrafft's Candy and Charleston Chew. He was a member of the VFW in Saugus, he enjoyed working around his home and in the garden, tending to his tomatoes and assorted vegetable plants. He was the former husband of the late Dorothy (Frederick) Garbati Court. Father of Peter L. Garbati & his wife Mary Anne of Plaistow, NH, Robert D. Garbati & his wife Barbara of Wilmington, Janet L. McCarthy & her husband George of Melrose and Jean M. Garbati & her companion Al Scibelli of Beverly. Brother of Everett Garbati & his wife Joanne of Everett and the late Edward & Elmer Garbati and Ella Norton. Also survived by 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. A funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Friday, Nov. 5th at 10AM. Relatives & friends are invited to attend. Visitation Thursday from 4-8PM.
