Eugene T. Murphy, 73, died at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital after a brief illness Saturday morning. Born in Melrose, he was a lifelong resident. Gene graduated from Melrose High in 1946,served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a Patrolman on the Melrose Police Dept for 32 years who retired in 1991 and was a member of St Mary's Church, the Mass Police Assoc. and the Harold O. Young Post #2394 V F W. Gene was the husband of the late Barbara A. ( Denley ) Murphy. Father of Sandra A. Ferrera of No. Reading and Robert P. Murphy of Melrose. Grandfather of Emily Ann Murphy. Brother of Lawrence Murphy of Cotuit and the late Leo, Eward J. and Glennis Murphy. Funeral Services will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Tuesday July 17 at 11 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Monday 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 pm. Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery.
