IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Evelyn M.
Lovett
November 10, 1941 – October 28, 2025
Evelyn Mae Lovett (Nicholson), of Melrose, a woman with great faith and strength, died peacefully surrounded by loved ones after a courageous 4-year battle with lung cancer on October 28, 2025, at the age of 83, just 2 weeks shy of her 84th birthday. She was born in Lynn on November 10th, 1941, to the late Joseph and Agnes (Duffy) Nicholson. She was raised in Revere and graduated from Revere High School in 1959.
After high school, she became a secretary/bookkeeper from 1959 to 1963 at Whiting's Milk Co. in Charlestown, MA. During that time is when Evelyn met her beloved husband George at a wedding they attended. George was a groomsman, and Evelyn was a bridesmaid. From that fateful day, they built a beautiful life together, married in 1962 for 60 years until George's death in April 2022. Her proudest accomplishment was the beautiful life she provided for her 5 children living in Melrose for more than 48 years.
In 1963, she became a mom and stayed home to raise her 5 children. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and worked hard repainting walls, re-wallpapering all while keeping 5 kids busy with endless fun. In 1986, when her youngest was old enough, she started work in the Melrose School System, becoming a lunch mother for 6 years and eventually becoming the secretary for the Roosevelt School until retirement in 2002. She truly loved working at the school. It brought her so much joy working with the kids and watching them grow. She was a great baker and proudly made many "doll cakes" for raffles with the proceeds to go to the PTO.
After retirement, Evelyn cared for both her aging parents, providing loving and wonderful care until their passing. She enjoyed sports, the local Boston teams of course, but her devotion was to Notre Dame Football. She never missed a game. She also was very fond of watching all the PGA golf tournaments and rooting for her favorite players. Evelyn was a faithful, devoted Catholic and parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Wakefield, MA.
Evelyn's family would like to thank her son-in-law Bill and daughter-in-law Wendy for all their loving care and support while undergoing treatment for lung cancer. Also, the oncology team at MGH, Dr. Christopher Nabel, Jeanne Vaughn, NP, and everyone she encountered during her treatment. Lastly, the family would like to thank Compassionate Care Hospice, especially her Nurse Teddy and Health Aide, Muriel.

Lovett & his wife Wendy of Melrose, Robert Lovett & his late wife Michelle of Belmont, NH, and Mark Lovett of Beverly.
