Everett James Finley, Jr. "Eddie" of Melrose, died on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital. He was 77 years old. Born on August 17, 1931 in Boston, MA to the late Everett J. Sr. & Audrey A. (Forrester) Finley, he was raised in Boston and Lynn. Mr. Finley was a 1949 graduate of the Lynn Vocational High School and then entered the Navy and served aboard the USS Briareus during the Korean War. Eddie worked as a machinist with the General Electric Company of Lynn for 29 years. He enjoyed watching television, bowling at the Lynnway Lanes in Lynn, shuffleboard, cards, cribbage, horseshoes, anything associated with Ted Williams and the old Boston sports teams such as the Boston Braves & the Red Skins. Eddie was a Melrose resident since 1959 and a member of the VFW of Melrose. He was the devoted husband of Gail A. (Perchway) Finley, with whom he shared almost 50 years of marriage. He was the loving father of Daniel M. Finley & his significant other LuAnn Fallon of Melrose, Linda G. Dunn & her husband David of Tewksbury & Debra A. Candeloro & her husband Robert, also of Tewksbury. Cherished grandfather of Caitlin Dunn, Cassandra, James & Andrew Candeloro. Brother of Elizabeth Pugh & her husband Ralph of Saugus, Robert Finley & his wife Addie of Billerica, Joan Brackett & her late husband Lawrence of Swampscott & Charles Finley of Lynn. Also survived by many nieces, nephews & cousins. A funeral service will be celebrated in the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Monday, January 5th at 10AM. Reverend Dominic Taranowski, Pastor of the First Congregational Church of Melrose will officiate. Family & friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours Sunday 2-6PM.
