Obituary

F. Joseph Joe Ebert passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on March 5th, he was 77. Joe was born and raised in Melrose, was a life long resident in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School. Joe entered the U.S. Navy after high school and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Mr. Ebert was a general contractor in Melrose throughout his life and also worked as foreman for the Maintenance Department of Melrose Public Schools for 15 years, retiring at the age 70. Joe was an avid fisherman and hunter, loved going to Great Pond and Alligator Lake in Maine. He was a member of the VFW Harold OYoung Post #2394 in Melrose and a long time member of St. Marys Church, where he volunteered as a collector for many years. Joe loved to cook, was an avid musician, and enjoyed entertaining the school kids on the piano, harmonica and yodeling. He was the beloved husband of Beverly A. (Hinchey) Ebert. Devoted father of Joanne Ebert-McCreary & her husband Arthur of Tewksbury, Christine LeDuc & her husband William of Melrose, Charles W. Ebert & his wife Debra of Wakefield, James F. Ebert & his wife Karen Hill and Nancy J. Ebert all of Melrose. Brother of the late Paul Ebert, William Ebert & Mary Jacqueline Chaney. Brother-in-law of Mary Hinchey of Stoneham. Loving grandfather of Kerry, Amanda, Lauren, William, Bryan, Katherine, Melanie, Alicia, Krystal, Ryan, Jeffrey, Allison, Amanda, Melissa and Teresa. Great grandfather of Marcello, Benjamin & Simone. Also survived by many nieces, nephews & cousins. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Wed., March 9th at 8:00AM. Funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 9:00AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Mon. 5:00-8:00PM & Tues. 3:00-8:00PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery Melrose. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity or charity of your choice.
