Obituary

Fantina R. (Raposo) DaSilva passed away at the Epoch Senior Care Center in Melrose on Sunday, August 30, 2009. She was 99 years young. Fantina was born in Portugal to the late Manuel & Maria (Medeiros) Raposo, was raised in Portugal and came to the United Sates in 1960. Mrs. DaSilva lived in Somerville for 7 years and Melrose the past 30 years. She was a homemaker, a loving mother and grandmother who cherished the times spent with family. Fantina was a talented seamstress could design and make women's & men's clothing, enjoyed cooking and was fluent in the Portuguese, English and French languages. Fantina was very giving & unselfish, was a member of St. Mary's Church and St. Mary's Ladies Sodality. Mrs. DaSilva was the wife of the late Manual J. DaSilva. Loving mother of Venilde Moura of Melrose, Maria Castro of W. Peabody, Odette Fernandes and her husband James of Melrose and the late Lorena DaSilva. Grandmother of Bella, Roy, Sandra, Paul, Michelle, Elizabeth & Shawn. Great grandmother of Stephanie, Jessica, Caroline, Caleb, Isabelle, Madeline & Sydney. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Thurs Sept. 3rd at 8AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 9AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Wed. 4-8PM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Memorial contributions may be made to the Home for Little Wanderers, 271 Huntington Ave, Boston, 02115.
