In Loving Memory of Fernando “Fred” DeSantis
Fernando “Fred” DeSantis passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Pettorano Sul Gizio, Abruzzo, Italy, Fred emigrated to the United States in 1960 as a child. Like so many immigrants of his generation, he built a life through hard work, determination, and an unwavering devotion to his family.
Fred shared 51 loving years of marriage with his beloved wife, Josephine, the love of his life. He was a proud father to Fernando Jr. and Massimo, and he warmly embraced Fernando’s partner, Lina, and his wonderful daughter-in-law, Sara as cherished members of the family.
Fred was a devoted grandfather to Massimo and Annina, who brought him endless joy. Whether cheering from the sidelines or sharing everyday moments, his time with them was among his greatest blessings.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Fred especially loved football and remained a loyal Oakland Raiders fan throughout his life. He also found joy in making and sharing pizza — a simple, heartfelt tradition that brought family and friends together around the table with laughter, warmth, and love.
He is survived by his brother, Pasquale DeSantis, his wife, Tamara DeSantis and sister in law Grace Federico. He was predeceased by his sister, Anna, her husband Tony Pazzia, and brother in law Crescenzo Federico.
Fred is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews including Rossana and Nick Houvardas, Domenic and Laura Federico, Simona and Anthony Dello Russo, Gian and Jennifer Pazzia, Michela and Michael Klein, Ali DeSantis and Philip Cosmo.
Fred will be remembered for his kindness, strength, work ethic, and above all, his deep love for his family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He will be dearly missed and forever remembered. Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster Street, Melrose. A Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 PM at the Gately Funeral Home. Interment will be private.
