Flaviano A. "Flory" Petti passed away at the Pilgrim Rehabilitation Center in Peabody, on Tuesday, November 24, 2009. He was 87 years of age. Born in North Attleboro, MA on October 14, 1922 to the late Michael & Angelina (Barone) Petti, he was raised in Everett and attended Everett Schools. Flory entered the US Navy on January 12, 1943 and served his country proudly for 3 years during WWII. After his discharge he worked as a machinist for Lawson Tool Company of Malden & Peabody for 20 years and then for the Boston & Maine Railroad for 20 years, retiring in 1991. Mr. Petti loved working around his home, doing odd jobs, cutting his lawn and polishing his car. Flory loved to travel, trips to Las Vegas, dancing, singing, sports and talking about WWII. He especially cherished times spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. Flory has been a resident of Melrose for the past 45 years, was a member of the local machinist union and a former member of the Tewksbury Knights of Colombus. He was the beloved husband of Gloria R. (Perrotta) Petti. Loving father of Steven R. Petti & his wife Marguerite, Marianne DelGenio & her husband Dennis of all of Danvers and Mark R. Petti & his wife Donna of Tewksbury. Grandfather of Kristine, Briana, Alyssa, Mark, Derek, Ryan & Justin. Brother of Evelyn Putalea of Peabody, Gaetano Petti of Medford & the late Joseph Petti formerly of Everett. Also survived by nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Saturday, Nov. 28th, at 8AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 9AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4:00-7:00PM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. WWII Navy Veteran.
