Obituary

Florence K. "Cheetah" (MacDonald) Haynes passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on March 17, 2014. She was 102 years of age. Florence was born in Boston on February 27, 1912 to the late Roderick & Anna (Clabby) MacDonald. She was raised in Sharon, lived in Allston for Many years, Newton for a few years, 25 years in Needham and the past year in Melrose. Mrs. Haynes was a homemaker and did volunteer work for the American Red Cross for many years. Her family was her number one priority, whether she was spending time hanging around the pool with them, camping or attending one of the many activities, recitals, sporting events of her grandchildren or great grandchildren. She never missed an event. Mrs. Haynes or "Cheetah" as she was affectionately known by was an avid Red Sox fan, celebrated her 100th birthday at Fenway Park where she was honored on the jumbo screen and was interviewed last year by Channel 5 after the Red Sox won the World Series. Florence was the loving wife of the late Winthrop B. Haynes. Beloved mother of Frances Carney & her late husband Jimmy of Melrose, John W. Haynes & his wife Merna of Brockton and Anne M. Long of MA. Devoted grandmother of Kristen Donald & her husband Scott, Shannon Tarr & her husband Thomas, Jennifer Wallace & her husband Jimmy, Erica & Sarah Haynes, John & his wife Dawn, Kenneth & his wife Ellen, Annabelle, Joseph, James Long and Colleen Sleeper & her husband Jimmy. Cherished great grandmother of Allison, Meghan & Kaitlyn Tarr, Joseph & Jillian Wallace, Ryan & Erin Donald, Erinn, Brendan & Casey Long, Courtney Carney, Mackenzie & Keegan Long and Christian & Hunter Sleeper. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Saturday, March 22nd from 9:00am-10:00AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:00AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. Memorial contributions may be made in Florence's memory to the American Red Cross, 179 Green St..
