Frances T. (Murray) Carroll passed away at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading on Tuesday, February 24, 2009. She was 90 years of age. Frances was born in Somerville on October 17, 1918 to the late Michael J. & Margaret A. (McCormick) Murray. She was raised in Charlestown, attended Girls High School in Boston and graduated from Central Hospital Nursing School in Somerville. Mrs. Carroll worked as a LPN at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital & Brockton Hospital for several years and the MacKenzie Nursing Home in Melrose for 10 years. She lived in Stoneham for 18 years, Florida for 2 years and most of her life in Melrose. She was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church of Melrose and an avid sports fan for all Boston teams. Frances was the wife of the late Robert Steele & Jermiah J. Carroll. She was the loving mother of the late Richard J. Carroll. Grandmother of Christine, Richard J. Jr. & Shawn Carroll, all of Chelmsford. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. She will be missed by her family & close friends. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Sat. Feb. 28 at 8AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Mary's Church Herbert St., Melrose at 9AM. Family & friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours Fri. 4-8PM.
