Frances G. Hodgson passed away at the Merrimac Valley Hospice House on Friday, May 13, 2011. She was 90 years of age. She was born in Boston, raised in East Boston and has been a resident of Melrose for the past 57years. Mrs. Hodgson worked at the Charlestown Navy Yard during WWII, the Melrose High School Cafeteria, Jordan Marsh Company and at the Candy Castle on Franklin St. in Melrose. Frances was very proud of her main job, raising her family of 9 children; she cherished the times spent with her family and loved playing cards with her boys on Wednesday nights. Mrs. Hodgson was a member of St. Mary's Church in Melrose, was a member of the Ladies Sodality at church, a member of the VFW Harold O' Young Post # 2394 Ladies Auxiliary, enjoyed playing bingo, travel and taking cruises to Hawaii and Alaska. She was the beloved wife of the late George T. Hodgson Jr. Loving mother of the late Kathleen Cheney, the late George T. "Biff" Hodgson III & his wife Lorraine of NH, Eileen Zaino & Paul of Melrose, Ken Hodgson & Pam of Reading, Joanne Peavey & Robert of Malden, Michael Hodgson & his late wife Michelle of ME, Joseph Hodgson & Susan of NH, Patricia Silva & George of FL, Robert Hodgson & Michelle Martin of Melrose, Also survived by 20 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Tuesday, May 17th at 8AM. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Frances's life will be held at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 9AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday from 4:00-8:00PM.
