Frances Ann (Lyons) Murphy passed away in Lecanto FL on Monday, November 4, 2013. She was 97 years of age. Frances was born in Watertown, MA on August 2, 1916 to the late Thomas & Christina (McGinness) Lyons, was raised in Watertown and Medford and graduated from St. Clement High School, Class of 1934. Mrs. Murphy lived in Melrose for the past 40 years before moving to Florida 4 years ago. She worked as an administrative assistant at the Cambridge Public Library for several years and prior to that at M&M Transportation. Frances was an avid sports fan and loved the Boston Red Sox. She enjoyed playing cards, especially solitaire, like spending time in her flower garden tending to her roses, was an excellent ice skater, loved to go shopping and driving her car. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. Mrs. Murphy was the beloved wife of the late William E. J. Murphy. Loving mother of Susan E. Manning & her late husband Robert of Melrose, Karen Lohrman & her husband Kenneth and William Murphy & his wife Patti all of Florida. Proud grandmother of Kara & Max Clegg, Courtney Manning, Roberta & Terry Frechette, Lisa Lohrman, Kevin Lohrman, Craig & Christy Murphy, Erin & Rob Barclay. Great grandmother of David & Leah, Benjamin & Connor, Julia & William, Hannah & Cameron, Kyle & Jacob. Sister of the late Edward, Harold & Kenneth Lyons, Helen Sheehan and Elizabeth O'Brien. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Friday, November 8th at 9AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 10AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
