Obituary

"See You Tomorrow" Frank A. "Hank" Occhipinti passed away at his home in Saugus on December 9, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born in Boston on November 29, 1927 to the late Antonio & Maria (DeMarco) Occhipinti. He was raised in East Boston, graduated from Brighton High School Mr. Occhipinti played semi-pro football for the East Boston Tornadoes in the Boston Park Department Football League in Boston at the age of 161/2 after never playing high school football and was the first recipient of the Michael Milano Outstanding Sandlot Trophy in 1952.. Hank lived in East Boston for many years before building his home in Saugus 56 years ago and was a longtime member of Incarnation Church in Melrose. He worked as an auto body mechanic, as an insurance adjuster and then as assistant chief of investigations for State of Massachusetts in the consumer affairs office for over 30 years. Hank had a passion for cooking, politics and skiing. Mr. Occhipinti was a great family man who took his family skiing every weekend right up to the age of 70. He enjoyed skiing in New Hampshire, Vermont, Colorado, Utah, California and in Europe. Hank also loved traveling with his wife Vera to Italy every year to visit his relatives . He was an avid golfer, enjoyed playing at Winthrop Golf Club and enjoyed playing softball, basketball, football and handball and was a champion at the Double A. Handball Tournament from the Paris Street Gym. But most of all it was all about his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Occhipinti was the beloved husband of 62 years to Vera (Pizzano) Occhipinti. Devoted father of Maria A. Mastromarino & her husband Michael, Mark Occhipinti and Andrea M. Occhipinti all of Saugus. Cherished grandfather of Antonio & Francesca Mastromarino. Loving brother of Gloria Polson. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Saturday, December 14th from 9:00-10:30AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St. Melrose at 11AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston, 75 Sylvan St. Danvers, MA 01923.
