Francis J. Frank Vitale Sr., of Rochester, NH, formerly of Melrose, died at the Dover Rehabilitation & Living Center in Dover, NH on Dec. 24, 2004 at the age of 89. Frank was born & raised in East Boston and was a graduate of East Boston High School where he played football & baseball. He was a Melrose resident for over 40 years and Rochester, NH the last 16 years. Frank was an avid golfer, sports enthusiast and loved gardening.He worked as a Lino Type Operator at the Boston Globe for over 40 years.Frank was the devoted husband of 68 years to the late Madeline G. (Riley) Vitale. Loving father of Francis J. Vitale Jr. & his wife Maureen of Fl, Robert J. Vitale & his wife Kathleen of Billerica, Barbara A. Wedge & her husband John of Dracut, Linda M. Vitale of Rochester, NH and Theresa G. Gallant & her husband James of Dracut. Cherished grandfather of 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday, Dec. 29th at 8AM. Funeral mass in St. Marys Church, Herbert St., Melrose at 9AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours on Tuesday from 4-8PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
