Obituary

Frederick J. Gorman passed away at home Jan. 26th after a long illness at the age of 84. Fred was born and raised in Melrose, graduated from Medford Vocational School and has been a lifelong resident. He was a WWII Coast Guard Veteran serving for 6 years in the North Atlantic and a survivor of a torpedo attack and sinking of his ship while on patrol. Fred worked as a foreman at Deering Lumber Company Company in Melrose for over 45 years. He was a member of the K of C in Melrose, the VFW Harold O'Young Post #2394 in Melrose, the drill team at the VFW and he was an usher and lifelong member of St. Mary's Church. Fred was the husband of Ruth E. (McHatton) Gorman. Father of Frederick J. Gorman Jr. & his wife Claire of Melrose. Brother of the late James Gorman, Margaret Gorman and Frances Duggan. Grandfather of Sean P. Gorman & his wife Lisa of Melrose and James J. Gorman & his wife Karen of Melrose. Great grandfather of Timothy, Haley, Alyssa & Cameron. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Thurs. Jan 30th at 8AM. Funeral mass in St. Mary's Church Herbert St. Melrose at 9AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Wed. 4-8PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. WWII Coast Guard Veteran. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church Vision 2000 46 Myrtle St. Melrose 02176.
