Frederick E. "Gene" Pineau of Malden, died suddenly on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at the Winchester Hospital. He was 82 years old. Born on February 23, 1927 in Quincy, MA to the late Frederick J. & Margaret (Shattuck) Pineau, he was raised in Quincy and attended Quincy Public Schools. He was a Melrose resident for 38 years and a Malden resident for 30 years. Mr. Pineau worked as a horse jockey for over 20 years and traveled all over New England, the East Coast and Florida racing at horse tracks. He enjoyed fishing, all sports and building bird feeders. Gene was the devoted husband of Virginia A. (deMara) Pineau, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. He was the loving father of Denise M. Schwartz of Taunton & Christopher E. Pineau & his wife Deborah of AZ. Cherished grandfather of Aimee (Schwartz) Linker & her husband Jon of Arlington & Leah (Schwartz) MacLeod & her husband Matt of Rochester, MA. Great grandfather of Juliana Linker & Joshua Barry Linker. Caring brother of Donald Pineau & his wife Shirley of S. Weymouth & the late Francis Pineau & Ruth Frazier. Also survived by many nieces, nephews & cousins. Funeral from the Gately Funeral home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Tuesday, August 4th at 10 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church Herbert St. Melrose at 11 AM. Family & friends invited. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 PM. Interment is private.
