Garrett J. "Garry" Hennessy, of Melrose, died at home surrounded by family on July 9, 2014 at the age of 66. Garry was born in Boston, raised in Dorchester and a graduate of Christopher Columbus High School, Class of 1965. He went on to earn his degree from Boston State College in 1970 and worked as a Certified Financial Planner and Vice President of The Savings Bank in Wakefield for over 20 years before his retirement in 2006. Garry was an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed kayaking, hiking and playing golf at many of the local courses with his friends and family. He loved to travel with his wife all over the country and to Europe. Most of all, he loved to spend his time with his children & grandchildren. Garry was the beloved husband of Marsha A. (Boudreau) Hennessy for 40 years. Loving father of Brian G. Hennessy & his wife Tara of Medford and Katie E. Ward & her husband Nick of North Reading. Cherished grandfather of Carolyn, Ryan and Owen. Caring brother of the late John Hennessy and the late Patricia Curtis & her husband Edward of Middleboro. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Saturday, July 12th at 8:45AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Church of the Incarnation, 425 Upham St., Melrose at 10AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours on Friday from 4-8PM. Burial in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.
