George W. Maguire passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Thursday, December 9, 2010. He was 79 years of age. George was born in Boston, raised in Medford, graduated from Mount St. Charles Academy in Woonsocket, RI where he played hockey, baseball & football. Mr. Maguire attended Boston College and served in the US Air Force for four years during the Korean War. George worked in the meat industry for over 50 years, as a zone manager at the 1st National Stores for 30 years and then at Johnny's Foodmaster for 20 years. He loved to play cards, was a Boston Sports Fan and a sports enthusiast in general. George was a longtime member of Incarnation Church in Melrose and was one of the first Eucharistic Ministers at church. Mr. Maguire was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed the family trips to Maine and New Hampshire. George was the beloved husband of Colette (Supple) Maguire. Loving father & father-in-law of Georgia & Jim Krasco, Matthew & Marianne, Mark, Luke & Brenda, John & Andrea Z., Andrea Colette, Peter & Andrea Beth Maguire and Paula & Michael Flynn. Devoted grandfather of Jimmy, Stephanie, Desi, Brian, Patrick, Erin, Liam, Dillon, Mick, Sara, Jenna, Molly, Jessica, Andrew, Zachary, Ally & Lily. Great grandfather of Jake, Sydney, Briana & Brayden. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Tuesday, Dec. 14th, at 9AM. A Funeral Mass in celebration of George's life at The Church of the Incarnation, 425 Upham St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend.
