George J. Carroll Sr. passed away suddenly, by accident, on Wednesday, October 12, 2011. He was 76 years of age. George born in Chelsea, MA on February 27, 1935 to the late George B. & Christine (Cater) Carroll. He was raised in Chelsea and graduated from Chelsea High School, Class of 1954. George has been a resident of Melrose for the past 48 years. Mr. Carroll worked as a truck driver and then as a mechanic for Mobil Oil Company for 24 years, before going into business for himself. He started owned Montvale Car Wash in Stoneham and then expanded to Liberty Car Wash in Danvers and Boston Street Car Wash in Lynn. Mr. Carroll was a dedicated family man, was a member of the Melrose Fish & Game Club and was a member of Incarnation Church in Melrose. George was the beloved husband of 56 years to Janet R. (Poore) Carroll. Devoted father of George J. Carroll Jr. of Melrose and Jeffrey Carroll & his wife Paula Farese of Lynnfield. Grandfather of George III, Colleen & Jennifer of Wilmington and Anthony & Isabella of Lynnfield. Brother of Lorraine Brown & her husband Weldon of Chelsea, Patricia Smith of Billerica, June Carroll of Everett, John Carroll of Revere and Joseph Carroll & his wife Maryann of Chelsea. Also survived by numerous nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Tuesday, October 18th at 9AM. A Funeral Mass to celebrate George's life will be held at Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St. Melrose, at 10AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday from 4:00-8:00PM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
