George Furno passed away at Harborside of the Northshore in Saugus, on December 15, 2005, he was 93. George was born in Italy, raised in Malden and graduated from Malden High School, where he excelled in football. Mr Furno was a WWII Army Veteran, serving in the European Theater for 3 years. He was involved the D-day Normandy Invasion, the Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland, the Ardennes and Central Europe. George owned a Poultry Business in Malden for several years and then worked as a butcher in the poultry business for Mayflower Poultry Co. in Cambridge for many years. Mr. Furno lived in Everett for 20 years and Saugus the past 50 years. He was a member of the Saugus VFW, was an avid bowler, bowled in the Saugus VFW Bowling League and the St. Leonard Church Bowling League in the North End. George was the beloved husband of Palma (Gagliardi) Furno. Brother of Rae DeBlasio of Somerville and the late Joseph Raso. Also survived by numerous, nieces, nephews, grand nieces & grand nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Monday Dec. 19th, at 9:30AM. Funeral mass in Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Summer St. Saugus, at 10:30AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Sunday 2-6PM. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery Malden.
