George F. Holt, of Sandown, NH, formerly of Melrose & Wakefield, died at his home on May 31, 2012 at the age of 76. George was born in Melrose, raised in Wakefield and a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1953. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. George resided in Melrose for over 40 years and worked as a Mechanic for the Melrose Fire department for many years. George was avid pool player, playing in many pool leagues, a mason for over 50 years and a member of the Wakefield Elks Club. He enjoyed jazz, blues, gardening, fishing, ham radios, fine art and was a collector of many things. George was the loving father of Alicia Holt of Sandown, NH. Cherished grandfather (Gramps) of Jeff & Jake Holt. Devoted great grandfather of Hannah Holt. Beloved son of the late Minard & Eleanor (Russell) Holt. Caring brother of Frank Holt & his wife Linda of Exeter, NH and the late Cliff Holt & Louise Robbins. He will also be sadly missed by his loving dog "Gertie". A funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday evening June 6th at 8PM. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 4-8PM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. Burial will be held Thursday June 7th at 11:30AM with full military honors at Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
