George Iversen of Duxbury, formerly of Melrose, died Friday, February 25, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 92 years old. Born in Dorchester on December 10, 1918, a son to the late Wilhelm & Cecile (Ibsen) Iversen, he was a graduate of the Burdett Business School and then served our country as a Sergeant in the United States Army during WWII. Mr. Iversen was the Domestic Vice President & General Manager of Hertz, Founder & Owner of New England Rent-A-Car, Founder & Owner of Iversen Ford of Billerica & a proud farmer in Cummaquid. He enjoyed working with his hands, farming, all Boston Sports Teams, was an original member of 40 years with the group of people who attended the Red Sox Spring Training in Florida and always loved to hear stories about his great grandchildren from his family. George spent the last 12 years living at the Village at Duxbury and had many friends and neighbors in the community. He was the loving father of Martin Iversen of Woburn, Tom Iversen of Hopkinton, Mary Mossay & her husband Bill of Houston, TX, Anne Seddon & her husband Jack of Suffield, CT, Jude Iversen of Stoneham & the late Bob Iversen. He was the cherished grandfather of Jenna Jutras, Tom & Eric Seddon, Chris Mossay & Jim Iversen. Great grandfather of Peter & Paul Seddon, Maddi Mossay, Owen, Gwyneth, Kenneth, Bernadette, Maria & Elizabeth Seddon. Caring brother of Dorothy Stockus of VT, Betty Kelly of Wareham & the late Norman, Henry & Richard Iversen. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. A celebration of George's life will be held on Saturday, March 5th at 10AM in the Village at Duxbury, 290 Kingstown Way, Duxbury, MA 02332. Relatives & friends invited. The family will receive guests from 9:15-9:45AM before the service. The Rev. Anne Seddon, daughter of George will officiate. Interment in Mayflower Cemetery, Duxbury.
