Obituary

George Lunn, of Melrose, passed away on March 27, 2015 at his home surrounded by family at the age of 74. George was born to Arthur J. Lunn and Edith (Toland) Lunn on November 26, 1940. He was raised in Dorchester and attended Jamaica Plain High School. While in high school George studied agriculture. His parents came from the farming country of New Brunswick, Canada, so farming was in his blood. Although he pursued another career at his parents urging, his passion for farming, gardening and landscaping would remain throughout his life. Not long after high school George enlisted in the United States Army, where he honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. After the war, George went to work for American Airlines for thirty-seven years. Most importantly, George met the love of his life at the Boston Public Library; he married Marie (Cambria) Lunn in 1963 at St. Joseph's Church in East Boston, and spent 52 years by her side. His job at American Airlines allowed the couple to travel all throughout the country forging memories they never forgot. George and Marie raised their son Russell in Melrose, and had many fond memories of attending all of Russell's sporting events over the years. George was a proud member of the Lynnfield Masonic Lodge. He is also remembered by many as a friendly face working at the Common Market in Melrose for several years. George was the type of person who would take the shirt off his back for you, he was unselfish, and a true gentleman. George loved his family, there was nothing he would not do for them, he was a truly dedicated father and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife Marie (Cambria) Lunn of Melrose. Dedicated father of Russell Lunn and his wife Brandy of Woburn. Cherished grandfather of Elizabeth and Michael. Loving brother of Helen Stone, Alan Lunn, and Gregg Lunn. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Melrose Veteran's Fund. Visitation at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose, on Tuesday March 31st from 4-7PM. Funeral on Wednesday April 1st, at the Gately Funeral Home at 11AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
