Obituary

George Moulaison was born June 27, 1921. He grew up in and remained a resident of Melrose for over 80 years. He attended Melrose High School where he lettered in football, hockey and baseball. After graduation in 1939, he left for Oahu, Hawaii as part of an elite group of football players who would be attending preparatory school to ready themselves to attend West Point Academy. Those plans changed however on December 7, 1941. After Japans attack on Pearl Harbor, George traveled back to the mainland to begin training for the Army Corps of Engineers. He left to join the allies in the European theater shortly thereafter. He bravely fought in many battles including the Battle of the Bulge and he landed at the beaches of Normandy within a few days of the initial D-Day invasion. While serving his country, George was awarded a Purple Heart, an American Defense Service Medal, a European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, and an Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon. He was honorably discharged in June 1945. After returning home George attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where he played ice hockey for the Minutemen. He later transferred to Boston University where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. After completing his degree, George worked as an accountant in the Boston area prior to becoming a special agent for the U.S. Treasury Department for almost 20 years. He left the Treasury Department to begin consulting work at a firm, Eddy, Rucker, Nichols, with headquarters in the Boston area. He finished his career working as a Business Agent for the M.D.C in downtown Boston. While at B.U., George met Geraldine Buckley, whom he would later marry and to whom he would remain married for over 50 loving years until his passing. George and Geraldine lived in Melrose together for 48 years. George was active in the community in youth sports. He coached Little League Baseball and Melrose Youth Hockey for many years. George is survived by his wife Geraldine; his daughter Noel Henrich of Marblehead; his son Keith of Newton, NH; his son Jay of Manchester-by-the-Sea; a son-in-law, Donald Henrich of Marblehead; a daughter-in-law, Tracy Moulaison of Newton, NH; his sister Ruth Fernald of Wakefield; his brother Francis of Nashua, NH; and 5 grandchildren: Christiane Henrich, Ryan Henrich, Alexander Henrich, Amanda Moulaison, and Lauren Moulaison. George will be remembered as a man who loved to spend time with his family. Whether on Marblehead Neck with his daughter Noel and her family; in Newton, NH, with his son Keith and his family; or with his son Jay in Melrose and later in California, George was happiest in the company of his family. As an avid sports enthusiast, George took up skiing in his seventies and continued to play hockey into his late seventies. He loved boats and enjoyed many wonderful days sailing in and around the North Shore as well as power boating on Lake Winnipesaukee. George will also be remembered as a generous, humorous and sensitive man, especially with regard to his family. He will be greatly missed but those that knew him will take comfort in the fact that he left this world a far better place. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Thurs.
