George A. "Bud" Robbins, Jr., of Melrose, died at home on June 23, 2018 at the age of 95. Bud was born & raised in Charlestown, resided in Charlestown until 1950, Somerville for 25 years and Melrose since 1975. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After returning from WWII, Bud worked as a Boston Firefighter for over 37 years before his retirement in 1985 and also worked as a painter & carpenter for many years. George was a member of the Church of the Incarnation in Melrose and the Irish American Club in Malden. Bud and his wife enjoyed traveling to Montreal, New York, Hawaii, Bermuda and going on cruises. He loved to spend his time at the family camp in Rochester, NH. Bud was a "Jack of all trades" and could fix & repair almost anything. George was always very devoted to his wife and his family was the most important part of his life. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy L. (Connolly) Robbins for almost 71 years. Loving father of Diana Artick & her husband Stephen of Framingham, Susan Ercolini & her husband Paul of Westford, Karen Warrington & her husband Gary of N. Reading, Thomas Robbins & his wife Nancy of Burlington and David Robbins & his wife Patricia of Londonderry. Cherished grandfather of Jennifer, Corey, Greg, Adam, Jamie, Sarah, Lora and Lindsay. Great grandfather of Bryce, Blake and Lucia. Caring brother of the late Alice O'Brien, Florence Martin, Mary Rose Sullivan, James Robbins, Ruth Tkachuk and Margaret Kermis. Also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives & friends. Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday, June 27th from 9-10:30AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Church of the Incarnation, 425 Upham St., Melrose at 11AM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bud's name to the charity of your choice.
