Obituary

George Trueman, of Melrose, died at the Lawrence General Hospital on August 29, 2008 at the age of 81. George was born in Everett, raised in Stoneham and a graduate of Stoneham High School, Class of 1944. He attended Tuft's University for 1 year before serving in the Army as a Private First Class during WWII with the 926th Signal Battalion. After WWII, George went on to earn his Chemical Engineering Degree from Tuft's University, Class of 1950. He worked as a Project Manager for Badger/Raytheon in Cambridge for 37 years before retiring in 1993. George enjoyed bowling, sailing, ballroom dancing, chess and crossword puzzles, as well as telling jokes. He spent many winter vacations in Sarasota, Florida with family and friends. As a longtime member of Bellevue Golf Club in Melrose, George had been an avid tennis player and more recently an enthusiastic golfer, playing in the Tuesday Night League and Thursday Night Scotch League. He could also often be found with his friends at the Melrose YMCA, Brueggers, and cheering on the Melrose High School girls volleyball and basketball games. George was the beloved husband of the late Nancy E. (Craigie) Trueman. Loving father of Jan Trueman & her boyfriend Mike Sperry of Byfield, Karen Whitney & her husband Toby of Reading, Lynn A. Haddad & her husband Joseph of Wakefield, Craig W. Trueman & his wife Cheryl of Winchester and Gail J. Taylor & her husband Clarke of NH. Cherished grandfather of Kelly Parker, Jenna & Jessica Whitney, Christopher Haddad and Colin Trueman. Caring brother of Helen Stetson of Framingham. Visiting hours will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Thursday Sept. 4th from 4-8PM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. A celebration of George's life will be held at Bellevue Golf Club, 320 Porter St. Melrose, on Saturday September 27th from 2:00 - 6:00PM. If attending please call Bellevue @ 781-665-7900 Ext. 13 to leave a message. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in George's name to the hospice care of your choice.
