Georgette A. (Nickerson) Cavanagh Hayes passed away at the Life Care Center of Stoneham, on October 9, 2007. She was 85 years of age. Georgette was born and raised in Somerville, graduated from Somerville High School and Bunker Hill Community College with an Associates Degree. Georgette was a homemaker, a dedicated wife and mother to her five children. She was a longtime member of the 3rd Order of St. Francis and St. Marys Church in Melrose. Georgette loved her faith, was a people person and took in over 40 foster children throughout her life. Mrs. Hayes enjoyed her volunteer work at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital and the New England Memorial Hospital in Stoneham. She was the wife of the late Walter J. Cavanagh & the late Arthur E. Hayes. Mother of Georgette Curran & her husband John, Kathleen Donovan & her husband Kevin all of Melrose, Thomas Cavanagh of Somerville, Cynthia Boyle & her husband Patrick of Saugus and the late Walter J. Cavanagh Jr. Sister of Warren Nickerson of Methuen and the late Kathryn Donahue & Elinor Patten. Sister-in-law of Mary Curdo of Melrose. Grandmother of Christine, Brian, Kerry, Andy, Stephen, Michael, Julie & Patrick. Great grandmother of Connor. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Sat. October 13th at 9AM. Funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 10AM. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Friday 4-8PM.
