Gerald E. Cobb passed away at Massachusetts General Hospital on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the age of 80. He was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts to the late George & Mary (Reidy) Cobb. Gerald was raised in Arlington, graduated from Arlington High Scholl, Class of 1950 and from Bentley College in 1958. Mr. Cobb served his country proudly serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955 as an Airman 1st Class. Gerald work as an accountant for the Medford Housing Authority for 14 years, retiring in 1995. Prior to working in Medford, he worked for Boston Stove Company in Reading for 14 years, the Kontron Company in Everett and at the J.F. Hillary Meat Company in Boston for 10 years. Gerry loved baseball, was a strong supporter of Melrose Babe Ruth and was the scorekeeper for Melrose High School Baseball Team the past 5 years. Mr. Cobb was a member of the VFW Harold O'Young Post #2394 in Melrose, the Italian American Club in Malden for the past 50 years, the North Shore Irish Club, the Irish American Club in Malden, the K of C Council #128 in Melrose and the Retired Men's Club in Arlington. He enjoyed playing golf on the local courses in the Melrose area, had a warm smile and a great personality. Gerry was the beloved husband of the late Helen (McCormack) Cobb. Loving father of Maureen Arsenault & her husband Kevin of Melrose, Susan Pezzano & her husband John of Melrose and Deborah Lucey & her husband Robert of Billerica. Devoted grandfather of Nicole Bowes, Kerri-Anne Cleary, Peter Pezzano, Robert Lucey III, Daniel Pezzano, Jennifer Lucey & Christopher Arsenault. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Wednesday, April 10th at 10AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 11AM. Relatives & friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday from 4:00-8:00PM. Interment with military honors at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
